The Sunday Art Show - how to paint a hen

'Dominique in the sunlight' see the finished painting in hi-res here: https://mike-jory.pixels.com/featured/dominique-dominicker-hen-chicken-pilgrim-fowl-painting-mike-jory.html
This week, I show you how to create an acrylic painting of a dominiker hen also known as a dominique or pilgrim fowl. These black and white feathered chickens actually have quite a few subtle colours in their plumage that I've tried to capture. I used interactive acrylics for this chicken painting and this allowed me to readily apply thin watercolor-like washes and thicker layers to dinstinguish between bird and background.
Materials used: Daler-Rowney A2 mixed media paper, Atelier interactive acrylics: alizarin crimson, french ultramarine, cadmium yellow light, burnt umber, carbon black, titanium white, synthetic brushes (half inch and one inch flats, small round brush), water spray bottle
