Ballet dancer lying on floor and stretching leg by grabbing ankle

Medium
Painting - Dry Brush Acrylic On Paper
Description
'Flexibility' shows the strength, control, poise and flexibility of a highly trained ballet dancer. The female dancer is lying on the floor supporting her weight on one elbow, her left leg is bent and acts to stabilise her as she raises her right leg towards the ceiling and grabs her heel while pulling her leg straight. A sense of movement and life are conveyed in this work with the lively brushstrokes and dry brush shading and there is a sense of abstraction in that the work can be viewed as a depiction of a dancer simply an interesting shape or silhouette. Perhaps most incredibly, this dancer, accurately depicted, was 60 years old at the time the painting was created yet she maintained a level of flexibility few of us will ever know. This painting is perfect for the home or dance studio and has a timeless quality that means it will complement a wide range of décor styles.
