Description
'Sat on the shingle shore' - en plein air painting of sail boats and dinghies on the River Exe. At Exmouth, round the corner from Shelly Beach aka Pirate's Cove, when the tide is low, you can sit on the pebbles of the red shingle river bed of the River Exe. At this point in the Estuary the water is teaming with activity, sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing and paddle boarding. For this en plein air study, I simplified the scene, selecting just a few of the boats and a buoy resting on the shore and used a Sharpie pen to sketch the composition in. Interactive acrylics were then used to bring the view to life, the purple red of the pebbles, the coral greens of the distant hills, the blue sky and the silver light on the water of the River Exe
